The ratio of sand and gravel in a mixture is 12 ∶ 5 while that between gravel and cement is 8 ∶ 16. What is the ratio of sand and cement in the mixture? Correct Answer 6 ∶ 5

Given:

The ratio of sand and gravel in a mixture = 12 ∶ 5

The ratio of gravel and cement in the mixture = 8 ∶ 16

Calculations:

Sand

Gravel

Cement

12 × 8 = 96

5 × 8 = 40

8 × 5 = 40

16 × 5 = 80

The ratio of Sand, Gravel, and Cement in the mixture = 96 ∶ 40 ∶ 80 = 12 ∶ 5 ∶ 10

The ratio of Sand and Cement = 12 ∶ 10 = 6 ∶ 5

∴ The ratio of Sand and Cement in the mixture is 6 ∶ 5
