A Hospital has raised 75% of the amount it needs for a new cancer center by receiving an average donation of Rs.12 lakh from the relatives of patients. The people already solicited represents the relatives of 60% of the patients. If the hospital is to raise exactly the amount needed for the new center, what should be the average donation from the remaining patients to be solicited? Correct Answer 6 lakhs
Calculation:
Let the no. of relatives be x who has been asked for donation.
People already solicited = 60% of x
⇒ 0.6x
Remaining people = x – 0.6x
⇒ 0.4x
Amount collected from the relatives solicited = 1200000 × 0.6x
⇒ 720000x
∴ 720000x = 75%
∴ Remaining amount = 25%
⇒ 240000x
∴ Average donations from remaining relatives = 240000x/0.4x
⇒ 6,00,000
∴ the average donation from the remaining patients to be solicited is 6 lakhs.
