A passenger train without stoppages runs at an average speed of 75 km/h, and with stoppages, at an average speed of 60 km/h. What is the total time (in hours) taken by the train for stoppages on a route of length 600 km? Correct Answer 2
Given:
Average speed without stoppage = 75kmph
Average speed with stoppage = 60kmph
Distance = 600km
Calculation:
Without stopage train moving for = 600/75 = 8 hours
Train moving with stoppage = 600/60 = 10 hours
Train is static for = 10 - 8 = 2 hours
Ratio of stopped time to moving time = 2 : 8 = 1 : 4
∴ Total time taken by train for stoppages = 1/5 × 10 = 2 hours
