The bar graph below represents the production (in tonnes) and sales (in tonnes) of steel in India from 2009 - 2014.  What is the difference (in tonnes) in the average sale from 2012 to 2014 and the average production from 2009 to 2014?

The bar graph below represents the production (in tonnes) and sales (in tonnes) of steel in India from 2009 - 2014.  What is the difference (in tonnes) in the average sale from 2012 to 2014 and the average production from 2009 to 2014? Correct Answer 105 tonnes

Given:

The sale(in tonnes) from 2009 to 2014 is as follows - 400, 650, 550, 500, 600 and 640

The production(in tonnes) from 2009 to 2014 is as follows - 520, 740, 700, 580, 810 and 760

Formula used:

Average = Sum of values/Total number of values

Calculation:

According to the formula, we have

The average sale from 2012 to 2014 = (500 + 600 + 640)/3 tonnes

⇒ 1740/3 tonnes

⇒ 580 tonnes

Now, the average production from 2009 to 2014 = (520 + 740 + 700 + 580 + 810 + 760)/6 tonnes

⇒ 4110/6 tonnes

⇒ 685 tonnes

So, the difference between the average sale and the average production = (685 - 580) tonnes

⇒ 105 tonnes

∴ The required difference between the average is 105 tonnes.
