A train departs from Hyderabad at 7 am and reaches Vijayawada at 11 am. Another train departs from Vijayawada at 9 am and reaches Hyderabad at 12:30 pm. At what time will the two trains cross each other?   Correct Answer 9:56 AM

Given:

The first train departs from Hyderabad at 7 am and reaches Vijayawada at 11 am

The second train departs from Vijayawada at 9 am and reaches Hyderabad at 12 : 30 pm

Formula used:

Distance = Speed × Time

Calculation:

Let the distance between Hyderabad and Vijayawada be x km

And the two trains meet after y(let) hours from the starting of 2nd train (9 am)

The time is taken by first train = 4 hours

The time is taken by second train = (7/2) hours

Distance traveled by the first train in (y + 2) hours + Distance travel by second train in y hours = x km

By using formula,

Distance = Speed × Time

⇒ (x/4) × (y + 2) + (2x/7) × y = x

⇒ (y + 2)/4 + (2y/7) = 1

⇒ (7y + 14 + 8y)/28 = 1

⇒ 15y + 14 = 28

⇒ 15y = 14

⇒ y = (14/15) × 60 = 56 minutes

⇒ The meeting time = 9 + 56 = 9 hrs 56 minutes

∴ The required answer is 9 : 56 AM.

The question below is followed by two statements I and II. You have to determine whether the data given is sufficient for answering the question. You should use the data and your knowledge of mathematics to choose the best possible answer. Train A departs at 9 : 20 am and train B departs at 10 : 50 am and they travel towards each other. After how much amount of time will the trains meet? I) Train A travels with a speed of 10 kmph and the difference between the speed of two trains is 6 kmph and both the trains are 160 km apart. II) Train B travels at a speed greater than Train A which travels with 10 kmph by 6kmph separated by a distance of 160 km.
