Given:

Time taken to cover 3 km/hr = 6 min late

Time taken to cover 4 km/hr = 4 min early

Formula used:

Distance =  speed × time

Calculation:

Let the distance between his school and his starting point = x km

According to question,

⇒ x/3 – x/4 = (6 + 4)/ 60

⇒ (4x – 3x)/12 = 10/60

⇒ x/12 = 1/6

⇒2 km

∴ Required distance is 2 km.
