The sum of LCM and HCF of two numbers is 536 and the difference between LCM and HCF is. 296. If one of the numbers is 104, then what is the other number ? Correct Answer 480

Given:

LCM + HCF = 536

LCM – HCF = 296

Concept used:

a × b = LCM of (a, b) × HCF of (a, b)

Where a and b are two numbers

Calculation:

LCM + HCF = 536

LCM – HCF = 296

⇒ 2LCM = 832

⇒ LCM = 416

⇒ HCF = 120

Let other number be x

104 × x = LCM × HCF

⇒ 104x = 416 × 120

⇒ x = (416 × 120)/104

⇒ x = 480

∴ The other number is 480

Important PointsTechinally this question is not valid as we know that LCM can not less than any of the two numbers.

But this is the question of CDS pyp so that we have to keep it as it was in the examination

You can solve it by the help of given formula

a × b = LCM of (a, b) × HCF of (a, b)

And you should ignore the condition for this question.
