Sanjay invested Rs. 40000 in a business. After 4 months, Suraj invested Rs. 30000 in the same business. At the end of the year, if Sanjay received Rs. 10000 as his share of profit, how much money did Suraj receive as his share of profit? Correct Answer Rs. 5000

Sanjay’s investment = Rs. 40000 for 12 months

Suraj’s investment = Rs. 30000 for (12 – 4) = 8 months

Hence, at the end of the year,

⇒ (Sanjay’ share of profit) ∶ (Suraj’s share of profit)

= (40000 × 12) ∶ (30000 × 8)

⇒ 10000 ∶ (Suraj’s share of profit) = 2 : 1

⇒ Suraj’s share of profit = 10000/2 = Rs. 5000

∴ At the end of the year, Suraj received Rs. 5000 as his share of profit
