Ashok and Bipin took a work for Rs. 4000. They can together do the work in 8 days, but along with Chetan and Dinesh, they completed the work in 2 days. If Chetan got Rs. 1000 for his work, in how many days can Dinesh do the work alone? Correct Answer 4 days

Work done by Ashok and Bipin together in 1 day = 1/8

Work done by Ashok and Bipin together in 2 days = 2 × 1/8 = 1/4

As the work is done in 2 days,

Work done by Chetan and Dinesh in 2 days = 1 – 1/4 = 3/4

As we know, amount of work done ∝ amount of wages earned

∵ Chetan received Rs. 1000 out of Rs. 4000 for his work in 2 days,

Work done by Chetan in 2 days = 1000/4000 = 1/4

Hence, Work done by Dinesh in 2 days = 3/4 – 1/4 = 1/2

⇒ Work done by Dinesh in 1 day = 1/2 × 1/2 = 1/4

∴ Dinesh can alone do the work in 4 days
