A cubical box has each edge 10 cm and another cuboidal box is 12.5 cm long, 10 cm wide and 8 cm high. Which box has the greater lateral surface area and by how much? Correct Answer Cubical box, 40 cm2

If each edge of the cube is a, then the lateral surface area of this cube would be 4a2.

Acubical = 4(10 × 10) = 400 cm2

If we take the length of the cuboid as l, breadth as b and the height as h, then

Lateral surface area of a Cuboid = 2(lh + bh) = 2h(l + b)

Acuboidal = 2(12.5 + 10)(8) = 360 cm2

So, the lateral surface area of the cubical box is greater by (400 - 360 = 40) 40 cm2
