In the following question, two statements are numbered as A and B. On solving these statements we get quantities A and B respectively. Solve for the both quantities and choose the correct option. Quantity A: P and Q received Rs. 2000 and Rs. 2500 respectively as their wage for a certain work. If P can do the work alone in 15 days, in how many days will Q do the same work alone? Quantity B: R and S worked together and received their wages in the ratio 4 ∶ 5. If R can do a work in 10 days, in how many days will S do the same work?
In the following question, two statements are numbered as A and B. On solving these statements we get quantities A and B respectively. Solve for the both quantities and choose the correct option. Quantity A: P and Q received Rs. 2000 and Rs. 2500 respectively as their wage for a certain work. If P can do the work alone in 15 days, in how many days will Q do the same work alone? Quantity B: R and S worked together and received their wages in the ratio 4 ∶ 5. If R can do a work in 10 days, in how many days will S do the same work? Correct Answer Quantity A > Quantity B
Solving for Quantity A:
Let Q take ‘x’ days to do the same work alone
P’s 1 day work = 1/15
Q’s 1 day work = 1/x
∵ Ratio of 1 day’s work = Ratio of wages
⇒ (1/15) ∶ (1/x) = 2000 ∶ 2500
⇒ x/15 = 2000/2500
⇒ x = 15 × 4/5 = 12 days
⇒ Quantity A = 12
Solving for Quantity B:
Let S take ‘x’ days to do the work alone
R’s 1 day work = 1/10
S’s 1 day work = 1/x
∵ Ratio of 1 day’s work = Ratio of wages
⇒ (1/10) ∶ (1/x) = 4 ∶ 5
⇒ x/10 = 4/5
⇒ x = 10 × 4/5 = 8 days
⇒ Quantity B = 8
∴ Quantity A > Quantity B
