A box contained red, green and blue coloured marbles, such that the number of red marbles is 56 more than the green marbles, while the number of blue marbles is 15 less than the green marbles. If the number of green marbles is 1/4 of the total marbles in the box, how many marbles are there in the box?

If the number of green marbles is 1/4 of the total marbles in the box, how many marbles are there in the box? Correct Answer 164
Let the total number of green marbles in the box be ‘x’.
⇒ Number of red marbles = x + 56
⇒ Number of blue marbles = x – 15
Now,
Total number of marbles = 4 × Number of green marbles = 4x
∵ Total number of marbles = Number of red marbles + Number of green marbles + Number of blue marbles
⇒ 4x = x + 56 + x + x – 15
⇒ x = 41
∴ Total number of marbles in box = 4x = 4(41) = 164
