Now they interchange their position-

After interchanging position-

This means Alia takes Simran's position and Simran takes Alia's.

Now, given,

Alia becomes 18th from the right end.

As Alia was 8th from the right end before, now she is at 18th from the right end.

So, there must be 9 people between Simran and Alia.

We get-

11 (Alia) 9 (Simran) 7

so total students = 11 + 9 + 7 + 2 = 29

Hence, the correct answer is 29
