Calculation:

Let, number of benches in the class be x

From 1st condition occupied benches = (x - 3)

Total students = 4 × (x - 3) = 4x - 12

From 2nd condition total number of students in the class = 3x + 3

Accordingly,

4x - 12 = 3x + 3

⇒ x = 15

Number of students in the class = (3 × 15) + 3 = 48

∴ The number of students in the class is 48.
