Rohan sells two types of tea viz. Desi Chai and Videshi Chai. He sells Desi Chai at Rs. 24 per kg and gains a profit of 20% whereas on selling the Videshi Chai at Rs. 45 per kg, he gains 25%. In what proportion should the Desi Chai and Videshi Chai be mixed such that he can gain a profit of 10% by selling the mixture at Rs. 33 per kg? Correct Answer 3 ∶ 5

Given:

Selling price of Desi Chai = Rs. 24

Selling price of Videshi Chai = Rs. 45

Selling price of mixed Chai = Rs. 33

Formula:

CP = SP × 100/(100 + Profit%)

CP = SP × 100/(100 – loss%)

Mixture and Allegation method:

a                               b

                  c

p                ∶              q

Where, a > c > b

(a – c)/(c – b) = p/q

Calculation:

Cost price of Desi Chai = Rs. 24 × 100/120 = Rs. 20

Cost price of Videshi Chai = Rs. 45 × 100/125 = Rs. 36

Cost of mixed Chai = Rs. 33 × 100/110 = Rs. 30

Rs. 20                                Rs. 36

                   Rs. 30

6                   ∶                    10

∴ Required ratio of Desi Chai to Videshi Chai = 6 ∶ 10 = 3 ∶ 5
