Aakash has coins of 50 paise, 25 paise and Rs. 1.50 in the ratio 1 : 2 : 3 (Aakash stays in a country where all are valid currency coins. Also, in his country, 1 rupee = 100 paise). How many coins of 25 paise does Aakash have, if he has got Rs.6,600 in all? Correct Answer 2400

The ratio of the number of coins is 1 : 2 : 3 for the 50 paise, 25 paise and Rs. 1.50 coins respectively.

∴ Ratio of money that he has in terms of 50 paise, 25 paise and Rs. 1.50 = (1 × 0.5) : (2 × 0.25) : (3 × 1.5)

= 0.5 : 0.5 : 4.5 =  1 : 1 : 9

Let the amount of money in terms of 50 paise, 25 paise and Rs. 1.50 coins be 1x, 1x and 9x respectively.

Since, he has Rs. 6,600 in all -

= 1x + 1x + 9x = 6600

∴ 11x = 6600

∴ x = 600

∴ Number of 25 paise coins = 600/0.25 = 2400

Hence, ‘2400’ is the correct answer.
