A group of friends went to South Africa. On the first day 60% went to see cricket match and 40% went for jungle safari, where as 20% stay in resort. Which of the following conclusion(s) can be drawn from the above data? a) 20% friends went to see cricket match as well as for safari. b) 40% friends went for only cricket match. Select the correct answer using the code given below ∶  Correct Answer Both a and b

Given∶

60% went to see cricket match.

40% went for jungle safari.

20% stay in resort.

Formula Used∶

Basic of percentage and sets.

Calculation∶

Friends who stay in resort = 20%

Member who went for either cricket match or jungle safari or both = 100% - 20% = 80%

n(Cricket match) = n(A) = 60%

n(Jungle safari) = n(B) = 40%

So, n(A∪B) = 80%

and  n(A∩B) = 60% + 40% - 80% = 20%

So, statement a is correct.

Friends who went for only cricket match = n(A) - n(A∩B)

⇒ 60% - 20% =

40%

So, statement b is correct.

∴ Statement a and b are correct so option 3 is correct.
