A person takes a total of 11 hours 50 minutes in walking a distance and running back to the same place where he started. He could run both ways in 10 hours 40 minutes. The time taken by him to walk both ways is: Correct Answer 13 h

Given:

Walking + Running = 11 hours 50 minutes

Running + Running = 10 hours 40 minutes

Concept used:

If a person covers a certain distance d in walking and again return to the starting point also in walking, then

Time taken to cover the distance = Time to return the starting point

Calculation:

According to the question,

Walking + Running = 11 hours 50 minutes      ---(1)

Running + Running = 10 hours 40 minutes

⇒ 2 × Running = 10 hours 40 minutes

Running = 5 hours 20 minutes      ---(2)

From equation (1) and (2), we get

Walking + Running = 11 hours 50 minutes

⇒ Walking = 11 hours 50 minutes - 5 hours 20 minutes

⇒ Walking = 6 hours 30 minutes

Now, time taken by Ram while he walking both ways = Walking + Walking

⇒ 2 × Walking

⇒ 2 × 6 hours 30 minutes

⇒ 2 × {6 hour + (1/2) hour}

⇒ 12 hours + 1 hour

⇒ 13 hours

∴ The required time is 13 hours.
