The following question, there are three statements I, II and III. Read the question carefully and mark your answer according to which statements(s) is/are sufficient to the answer the question. In how much time can three pipes P1, P2 and P3 together fill an empty tank which has a leak at the bottom? Statement I: Pipe P1 and P2can fill the tank completely in 30 minutes with the leak Statement II: Pipe P3 alone can fill the tank completely in 110 minutes if there is no leak at the bottom Statement III: When there is no leak at the bottom of the tank, the ratio of the time taken by all the three pipes P1, P2, P3 is 2 : 2 : 3
The following question, there are three statements I, II and III. Read the question carefully and mark your answer according to which statements(s) is/are sufficient to the answer the question. In how much time can three pipes P1, P2 and P3 together fill an empty tank which has a leak at the bottom? Statement I: Pipe P1 and P2can fill the tank completely in 30 minutes with the leak Statement II: Pipe P3 alone can fill the tank completely in 110 minutes if there is no leak at the bottom Statement III: When there is no leak at the bottom of the tank, the ratio of the time taken by all the three pipes P1, P2, P3 is 2 : 2 : 3 Correct Answer Only III
Let the capacity of the tank = 330 litres
From statement I:
Capacity filled by pipes P1 and P2 with leak = 330/30 = 11 litres/min
From statement II
Capacity of P3 = 330/110 = 3 litres/min
From statement III:
P1 : P2 : P3 = 2 : 2 : 3
Since from statement II:
Capacity of P3 = 3
Suppose 3 units = 3 liters
So, 1 unit = 1 liter
Hence capacity of P1 = 2 liters/min
Capacity of P2 = 2 liters/min
Capacity of P1 and P2 can be calculated by statement III only.
Total time taken = (330/2 + 2 + 3) = (330/7) mins
