Calculation:
Let first and second number be x and y respectively
According to the question,
x × = y – 80
⇒ 12x/5 = y – 80
⇒ 12x = 5y – 400
⇒ 12x – 5y = -400 ----(i)
And, x + 120 = y – 240
⇒ x – y = -360 ----(ii)
Now, multiplying equation (ii) by 5
⇒ 5x – 5y = -1800 ----(iii)
Subtracting equation (iii) by equation (i)
7x = -400 + 1800
⇒ 7x = 1400
⇒ x = 200
Putting value of x in any equation, we will get y = 560
⇒ Sum of two numbers = 200 + 560 = 760
∴ The sum of two numbers is 760
