When Kaushik gives 6 paise each to some beggars, he is left with 7 paise. If he gives 8 paise to each of them, he encounters a deficit of 5 paise. How many beggars were there? Correct Answer 6

Given;

When Kaushik gives 6 paise each to some beggars, he is left with 7 paise. If he gives 8 paise to each of them, he encounters a deficit of 5 paise.

Calculation:

Let, the number of beggars is x

When Kaushik gives 6 paise each to some beggars, he is left with 7 paise.

⇒ Kaushik have total (6x + 7) paise

Again when Kaushik gives 8 paise to each of them, he encounters a deficit of 5 paise.

⇒ Kaushik has (8x - 5) paise

Accordingly,

6x + 7 = 8x - 5

⇒ 8x - 6x = 7 + 5

⇒ 2x = 12

⇒ x = 6

∴ There were 6 beggers.
