| Baji Rao I |
- He ruled from 1720 to 1740.
- He was a bold and brilliant commander and was considered the greatest exponent in guerilla tactics after Shivaji maharaj. Maratha power reached its zenith under him.
- Under his leadership, the Marathas compelled the Mughals first to give them the right to collect Chauth of the vast areas and then to cede those areas to the Maratha Kingdom.
- He conquered Salsette and Bassin from Portuguese in 1733.
- He also defeated the Nizam-ul-Mulk near Bhopal and concluded the treaty of Durai Sarai, via which he got Malwa and Bundelkhand (1737).

- He is also known as Nana Sahib.
- He ruled from 1740 to 1761.
- In an agreement with the Mughal empower (Ahmed Shah), the Peshwa agreed to protect the Mughal empire from internal and external enemies in return for the Chauth (one-forth of the land revenue)
- In the Third battle of Panipat in 1761, between Maratha and Ahmed Shah Abdali, Viswas Rao, the son of Nana Sahib died.

- He was born in 1775 when both his parents were kept in captivity by the then Peshwa's council.
- Till the age of 19, he along with his brothers were kept in custody refusing even fundamental rights of education.
- Meanwhile the Maratha leaders Yashwantrao Holkar of Indore and Daulat Rao Sindhia of Gwalior, Baji Rao II bolted west to Bombay in September 1802 to endeavour the active support of the British who were expecting this opportunity with great endurance.
- Britishers helped him but with a condition.
- He concluded the Treaty of Bassein in December 1802, in which the British granted to restore Baji Rao II as Peshwa, in the account for allowing in Maratha territory- a force of 6000 infantry troops complete with guns and officered by British, paying for its support and accepting the stationing of a long-standing British political representative (Resident) at Pune.
