Bahadur Shah Zafar was the last Mughal ruler, during the revolt of 1857, the sepoys of Meerut reached Delhi and declared him as their leader.
- At first, he was hesitant to challenge the British but later blessed the rebellion.
- This act inspired and gave courage to many small rulers and chiefs to act against the British.

- In 1849, it was announced by Lord Dalhousie that after the death of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the family of the king would be shifted out of the Red Fort. Also, they will be given another place in Delhi to inhabit.
- William Bentinck was the Governor-General of India from 1828-1835. He came before the coronation of Bahadur Shah Zafar (1837). Also, during his tenure, the Vellore mutiny took place and Sati was abolished.
- Lord Cornwallis was the Governor-General of Bengal and the Commander-in-Chief of British India from 1786-1793. He is said to be the Father of Civil Services in India.
