The ratio of the number of boys and girls in a school is 3 : 2, If 20% of the boys and 30% of the girls are scholarship holders, then what is the percentage of students who do not get scholarship ? Correct Answer 76%

Given:

20% of boys and 30% of girls are scholarship holders

Concept:

Let number of students in the class be 5x

we know that ratio of number of boys and girls in the class: 3:2

let number of girls and boys students in the class be  2x and 3x respectively.

Calculation:

percentage of boys scholarship holder in the class :20%

number of boys scholarship holder in the class:

⇒20% of 3x = 0.6x

percentage of girls scholarship holder in the class: 30%

number of girls scholarship holder in the class:

⇒ 30% of 2x = 0.6x

Total students having scholarship = 0.6x + 0.6x = 1.2x

percentage of scholarship holder in the class:

⇒ (1.2x/5x)× 100 % = 24%

Conclusion:

percentage of students who are not scholarship holder:

⇒ 100 - 24 = 76%
