Class Interval 0-10 10-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 Number of students 15 26 35 40 20 14 If the data is represented as a pie chart what is the central angle of the sector representing the median class to the nearest whole degree?
The following table gives the marks obtained by students in the given class interval. Read the table and answer the following questions. Class Interval 0-10 10-20 20-30 30-40 40-50 50-60 Number of students 15 26 35 40 20 14 If the data is represented as a pie chart what is the central angle of the sector representing the median class to the nearest whole degree? Correct Answer 84°
Concept:
The median of data is the centermost number of the data when arranged in ascending order
Calculation:
Total number of students = 15 + 26 + 35 + 40 + 20 + 14 = 150
Centermost number = 150/2 = 75
Cumulative frequency of 20-30 = 15 + 26 + 35 = 76
75 lies in the interval of 20-30
Hence, the centermost number(marks) will be in 20-30 intervals as it is having the 74th, 75th and 76th numbers when arranged in ascending order
The total measure of the angle of the pie chart = 360º
∴ Central angle of pie chart for 20-30 interval = (35/150) × 360 = 84º
