AB = AC (isosceles triangle)

⇒ ∠ABD = ∠ACD = 40°

∠A + ∠B + ∠C = 180° ⇒ ∠A + 40° + 40° = 180° ⇒ ∠A = 100°

∴ ∠BAD = 50°

By SSS congruence:

ΔABD = ΔACD

(∠A/2) + ∠B + ∠D = 180° ⇒ (∠A/2) + 40° + 90° = 180° ⇒ (∠A/2) = 50° ⇒ ∠A = 100°
