The cylinder liners are to withstand pressure, temp, wear and tear. So, they are made of Correct Answer centrifugally casted cast iron
A liner is a thin, cast iron circular shell which is centrifugally cast. It contains chromium for hardness. It protects the cylinder block from rapid wear and damage due to combustion. The life of cylinder block is increased by liner, since the block does not bear the combustion pressure and temperature directly.
Types of liners:
- Dry type: In this cooling water of engine does not come in direct contact with the liner. These liners have an interference fit with a cylinder block.
- Wet type: These liners come in direct contact with cooling water.
