Individual learners differ from each other in  Correct Answer rate of development

Individual differences: Every child is unique and different from others. It should be kept in mind that learners possess different abilities and personalities and belong to different backgrounds. So, the stimulus needs of every learner will be different.

There are several principles which development is based on:

  • The Principle of Differentiation in Rate: Differentiation in rate indicates that individuals differ in the rate of development.
  • It states that every individual, although they exhibit differences in change, follows the same sequence of change.
    • The cephalocaudal tendency exhibits that the development proceeds in the longitudinal direction, i.e., from head to foot. That is why the child first gains control of the overhead before s/he starts walking.
    • Proximodistal tendency proceeds from near to far and from parts of the body where the centre develops first, then the extremities. Therefore, the child in the earlier stage of development exercises the fundamental muscles rather than the smaller muscles or fine motor skills.
    • Every individual is distinct in his or her own right due to factors such as heredity and environment.

Note that other principles of development are the Principle of Continuity, the Principle of Generality to Specificity, the Principle of Interrelation, the Principle of Interaction, the Principle of Integration, and the Principle of Predictability

Hence, we conclude that individual learners differ from each other in the rate of development.
