Examine these two statements carefully and select the answers to these items using the code given below: Statement I: Volcanic eruption is accompanied by earthquakes. Statement II: Volcanoes erupt water vapours and dust particles in the atmosphere. Correct Answer Both the Statements are individually true but Statement II is not the correct explanation of Statement I.

Volcano
- A volcano is an opening in the earth’s crust through which gases, molten rocks lava, ash, steam etc. are emitted outward in the course of an eruption.
- Such vents or openings occur in those parts of the earth’s crust where the rock strata are relatively weak.
- Volcanic activity is closely connected with crystal disturbances, particularly where there are zone weakness due to deep faulting or mountain folding.
- Major earthquakes usually caused by movement along faults.
- This is because the molten magma float over the asthenosphere that forces its way into the planes of weakness of the crust to escape.
- Hence both the statements are individually true but Statement II is not the correct explanation of Statement I.
- There are three types of volcanoes i.e. active, dormant and extinct.
- When volcanoes frequently errupted or errupted within recent time are said to be active.
- Those shows the signs of possible erruption in the future are said to be dormant.
- Volcanoes that have not errupted at all in historic times but retain the features of volcanoes are termed as extinct.
