Babbar Akali Movement was the movement for the reform of Sikh places of worship during the early 1920's. In the course of their campaign, Akalis suffered physical injury and violence in the hands of the priests and government authority. The incidents at Tarn Taran (January 1921) and Nankana Sahib (February 1921) in which many Sikhs lost their lives led to emergence of this Babbar Akali group, which rejected non-violence and adopted violence as the method. The member of this secret group, called themselves Babbar Akalis, Babbar means 'lion'. Their main targets were the British officers and their Indian informers. They had strong patriotic feelings and Sikh faith.
