Which of the following statements is/are INCORRECT? A. The ratio of the force of gravitation between two masses, m1 and m2, kept at a distance R on the earth and on the moon is 1:1. B. Nm2/kg2 is the SI unit of G. C. The value of G depends on the distance between the bodies. D. The value of G depends on the masses of the bodies.
Correct Answer A, C and D
The correct answer is A, C and D.
- The ratio of the force of gravitation between two masses, m1 and m2, kept at a distance R on the earth and on the moon, the ratio of masses cannot be same in ratio as gravity on both earth and moon is 1:6. Hence the statement A is incorrect.
- The SI unit of Gravitational Constant (G) is N m2/kg2. Hence statement B is correct.
- The Value of G is constant i.e 6.673 × 10–11 N m2 kg–2.
- It does not depend on anything because it is constant. Its value remains the same everywhere as the value found out here ( Earth) should not vary anywhere in the universe. Hence statements C and D are incorrect.
- The law of gravitation states that the force acting between two masses depends directly on the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of their distance between them. It is given by :
- F = G (m1, m2)/r2
- G is the universal gravitational constant
Confusion Points We have to find out the incorrect statements which are A, C and D.
