Correct Answer 2 and 3 only

Concept:

The refrigeration cycle is shown in the figure below on P-h axis

The state of the refrigerant throughout the cycle is as follows

  • The refrigerant is saturated vapour at the exit of the evaporator
  • The refrigerant is in superheated state at exit of the compressor
  • The refrigerant is in saturated liquid state at exit of the condenser
  • The refrigerant is in wet region at the exit of the expansion valve

The state of the refrigerant after the compression is in vapour form, to turn the vapour refrigerant back into the liquid it is cooled with some medium. The medium is usually water or air at a temperature substantially higher than the temperature of the medium being cooled by the evaporator.

Solar thermally operated system is capable of only intermittent operation because the solar thermal power depends upon the weather and the locations also. Therefore the power required for the cycle will not be continuous therefore the cycle operation will be intermittent only.

Statement (II): The piston temperature profiles are different in nature for liquid cooled and air cooled engines because of the different values of heat capacities.
