An energy source forces a constant current of 2 A for 10s to flow through a light bulb. If 2.3 kJ is given off in the form of light and heat energy, what is the voltage drop across the bulb ?
An energy source forces a constant current of 2 A for 10s to flow through a light bulb. If 2.3 kJ is given off in the form of light and heat energy, what is the voltage drop across the bulb ? Correct Answer 115 V
We know that
The total charge is given by
Δq = I Δt
Where Δq = change in charge, I = current, Δt = change in time, ΔW = Change in energy
∴ Δq = I Δt = 2 × 10 = 20 C
The voltage drop is given by
V = ΔW/Δq
∴ V = (2.3 × 103) /20 = 115 V
