A train starts from station A with a speed of 90 km/h at 8:00 am towards station B, in the route it crosses another train starting from station B towards station A at 9:00 am with a speed of 60 km/h. The distance between two stations is 465 km. How long will the train take to reach from station A to meeting point?
A train starts from station A with a speed of 90 km/h at 8:00 am towards station B, in the route it crosses another train starting from station B towards station A at 9:00 am with a speed of 60 km/h. The distance between two stations is 465 km. How long will the train take to reach from station A to meeting point? Correct Answer 3.5 hours
Given:
Speed of train from A to B = 90 km/h
Speed of train from B to A = 60 km/h
Concept Used:
Distance = Speed × Time
Calculation:
Distance covered by the Train traveling within 8:00 am to 9:00 am = 90 × 1 = 90 km
Remaining distance between trains = 465 - 90 = 375 km
Meeting time = 375/(90 + 60)
⇒ 375/150
⇒ 2.5 hours
Time taken by train to reach meeting point = 1 + 2.5 = 3.5 hours
∴ The train takes from station A to reach meeting point is 3.5 hours.
