Jatin has a container filled with milk and water in the ratio 3 ∶ 5. Before mixing, water is added 16 L more whereas milk taken out 2 L from the container. Now they are mixed in a separate container and the new ratio of milk and water is 2 ∶ 13. Find the initial quantity of milk  Correct Answer 6 L

Given:

Container of milk ∶ Container of water = 3 ∶ 5

Water added = 16 L

Milk taken out = 2 L

New ratio of milk = 2 ∶ 13

Calculation:

Let assume that milk in container = 3x

Water in container = 5x

According to the question:

⇒ (3x - 2)/(5x + 16) = 2/13

⇒ 39x - 26 = 10x + 32

⇒ 29x = 58

⇒ x = 2

⇒ Initial quantity of milk = 3x = 3 × 2 = 6L

∴ Initially milk in container was 6L

The correct option is 2 i.e. 6 L
