Explanation:-
- The site should be avoided, if:
- bruised
- tender
- hard
- swollen
- inflamed or scarred.
- The above conditions reduce absorption and comfort.
- The subcutaneous injection on the abdomen has the fastest rate of absorption in comparison to the other sites.
- A 25- to 30-gauge, 3/8" to 1" needle can be used.
- A maximum of 1 mL solution is administered.
- Enoxaparin is an example of a subcutaneous drug.
- The angle of administration: 45- to 90-degree.
- Aspiration is contraindicated in the case of heparin as it may lead to hematoma.
- Massaging the site is not necessary.
