The ratio of a number of boys and girls who applied for the campus selection process is 4 : 3. A total number of students who got selected is 500 and the ratio of the number of boys and girls who selected for the campus selection process is 3 : 2. The number of boys and girls who do not select are equal. Find the total number of students who applied for the campus selection process.

The number of boys and girls who do not select are equal. Find the total number of students who applied for the campus selection process. Correct Answer 700
GIVEN :
Ratio of a number of boys and girls who applied for the campus selection process is 4 : 3
Number of students who got selected is 500
Ratio of the number of boys and girls who selected for the campus selection process is 3 : 2
Number of boys and girls who do not select are equal
CONCEPT :
Ratio and its types
ASSUMPTION :
Let number of boys and girls who applied for campus selection process be 4x and 3x respectively.
Let the number of boys and girls selected be 3y and 2y respectively
CALCULATION :
According to the question,
⇒ 3y + 2y = 500
⇒ 5y = 500
⇒ y = 100
⇒ Number of boys selected are 3 × 100 = 300
⇒ Number of girls selected are 2 × 100 = 200
Let the number of boys and girls who do not select be m
Now,
Total students – not selected students = selected students
⇒ 4x – m = 300 ----(i)
⇒ 3x – m = 200 ----(ii)
Solving equation (i) and (ii) we get,
⇒ x = 100, m = 100
∴ Total number of students who applied for campus selection process = 4x + 3x = 7x
⇒ 7 × 100 = 700
