Which of the following represents correct matching set? A Power house of cell i) Cell membrane B Store house of cell ii) Nucleus C Information centre of cell iii) Mitochondria D Gate keeper of cell iv) Chloroplast v) Vacoule Correct Answer (A) - (iii), (B) - (v), (C) - (ii), (D) - (i)

The correct answer is (A) - (iii), (B) - (v), (C) - (ii), (D) - (i).

Explanation:
Mitochondria:

  • Mitochondria are membrane-bound cell organelles, essential for aerobic respiration of eukaryotic cells.
  • These are also known as powerhouse of the cell. Thus, they produces cellular energy in the form of ATP.
  • Mitochondria are present in all living cells except, prokaryotic cell and certain specialized eukaryotic cells such as anaerobic cells and mature red blood cells.

Vacoule:

  • Vacuoles are large, membranous sacs found in the cytoplasm.
  • Vacuoles are known as Store house of cell because they store substances that are not essentially useful for the cell (like water, sap, excretory product, and other minerals).
  • Plant vacuoles contain not only water, sugars, and salt, but also contain pigments and toxic molecules and also occupy upto 90% of the volume of the cell.

Cell membrane:

  • Every living cell is covered by a thin, elastic, transparent semipermeable and regenerative membrane called the cell membrane, also called plasma membrane.
  • The plasma membrane separates the internal environment of the cell from the external environment.
  • Cell membrane is the Gate keeper of cell because this membrane help in regulating the entrance and exit of molecules into and out of the cell.

Nucleus:

  • It is a specialized and principal organelle of the cell, which contains all the genetic information for controlling all essential processes related to metabolic and hereditary transmission.
  • A nucleus is known to be present in all eukaryotic cells except a few cell types such as red blood cells of humans, sieve cells of vascular plants, etc. Thus it is known as the information centre of cell.
