• We know that children are not blank slates or empty vessels to be filled by ‘information about carefully listed key concepts and that they cannot learn by passively listening to adults, however expressive they may be.
• They have to construct knowledge for themselves, which can happen when they get the right cues to connect new understanding with what they already possess i.e. Relating the child’s local knowledge to the school knowledge.
