Lightening conductors are used to protect building from lightning strikes. Which of the following statements is/are true about lightening conductors? 1) Lightening conductors create an electric field at its top that lightning strikes it preferentially 2) Lightning conductors reduce the effect of the strike by uniformly distributing the charge (current) over the surface of the building 3) Lightning conductors take all the charge (current) to deep down in the earth 4) Lightning conductors must be installed at a place taller than the building Select the correct answer using the code given below

CONCEPT:
- Lightening conductor: A metal rod mounted on the top of any building which is electrically connected to the ground with the help of a thick wire to protect the building during the phenomenon of lightening is called as Lightening conductor
EXPLANATION:
- As there is no source to create the electric field connected to the lightning conductor, that’s why it can’t create any electric field at the top. So statement 1 is wrong.
- There is a sudden flow (no uniform flow of charge) of charge through the conductor due to lightning. So statement 2 is wrong.
- The conductors take all the charges coming on it and take it to deep down in the earth. So statement 3 is correct.
- The conductors must be installed at a place taller than the building to ensure that there is no direct connection of lightning with the roof of the building and hence building will be safe. So statement 4 is correct.
