• The 2nd clause of every sentence has the verb 'are'. So, the first half should also contain a verb in the present tense i.e. portrays.
• Also, the use of 'as complex as adults' is correct because 'as' is used in comparisons to refer to the extent or degree of something.

Hence, only sentence B is grammatically correct.
