Which of the following measures cannot be effective in reducing the noise? Correct Answer Increase in channel bandwidth
Signal to noise ratio is one of the important parameters to analyze the performance of a communication system. It is, therefore, always desirable to reduce the noise power and increase the signal power for efficient transmission and reception.
The factors that determine the amount of noise present include:
Bandwidth:
- The amount of noise present is proportional to the channel bandwidth.
- More the channel bandwidth, the more will be the noise present.
- For Example, White noise is uniformly present for all the frequencies. More the bandwidth more will be the net effect of noise.
- ∴ Increasing the channel bandwidth cannot help in reducing the noise.
Signaling Rate:
- More the signaling rate, narrower will be the pulses in time domain.
- Since the time and frequency domain are inversely related, more the signaling rate, more will the spread in the frequency domain.
- This will result in more interference with noise.
- ∴ Less the signaling rate, less will be the interference of noise.
Transmitted Power:
- The signal power depends on the transmitted power.
- More the transmitted power, more will be the signal power, that will result in more signal to noise ratio.
- ∴ The effect of noise is reduced when the transmitted power is increased.
