- On 3 December 1984, Methyl isocyanate (Chemical formula- CH3NCO or C2H3NO) gas leaked from the the pesticide plant of Union Carbide (now Dow Chemicals) situated in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
- After this tragedy, the government of India enacted a Public Liability Insurance Act (1991).
- Recently on 7th May 2020, another major gas leak incident occurred from the styrene plant owned by South Korean electronics giant LG in R. R. Venkatapuram village on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam.
