Which of the following statements is/are correct about the unbiased test method used by the teacher in science class? I. They are able to see and search for relationships between variables. II The emphasis is on students to identify one or more independent variables to manipulate them independently of other factors. Correct Answer I and II
All processes in science are done with a specific purpose, evidences are collected with reliable and valid methods, and they are examined critically by controlling different variables.
For devising and planning inquiry one needs to think about variables that play important role in the process of inquiry. In all, there are three categories of variables.
- Independent variable: To investigate the difference between two things or conditions you change these variables. The difference between things can be compared on the basis of some property. For example, if we want to investigate the heat absorption capacity of colour with respect to a certain type of fabric then the colour is the independent variable. It will not be changed during the experiment.
- Control variable: The investigate heat absorption capacity of the colour you should not change some variable during the study. For example, you will not change the type of cloth, duration for which the heat is supplied; the temperature of the source will also be kept constant throughout the investigation.
- Dependent variable: This variable gets affected as you change the independent variable. That is why it is called a dependent variable. In this example, heat absorption capacity is a dependent variable as it depends on the type of cloth, the temperature of the source, duration for which the heat is provided etc.
Hence, we conclude that both the statement are correct.
