Which of the following statements are true? (i) Angles forming a linear pair are supplementary. (ii) Angles forming a linear pair can both be acute angles. (iii) Two lines parallel to the same line are parallel to each other. (iv) Two lines perpendicular to the same line are perpendicular to each other. Correct Answer ( i ) and ( iii )

Calculation:

(i) Angles forming a linear pair are supplementary.

A linear pair = sum of angels of the pair = 180°

So, the statement is true.

(ii) Angles forming a linear pair can both be acute angles.

Acute angles = angles which has a value < 90°

We know 90 + 90 = 180, then, two ranges whose values are both less than 90° will not give sum 180°

So, the statement is false.

(iii) Two lines parallel to the same line are parallel to each other.

The given statement is true.

(iv) Two lines perpendicular to the same line are perpendicular to each other.

The statement is false as two lines perpendicular to the same line will be parallel to each other and not perpendicular to each other.

∴ (i) and (iii) are true.
