Given:

Total children = 1080

Girls = 520

Absent girls = 70

Ratio of chocolates given = 1 : 2

Calculation:

Let the number of chocolates given to boys be x,

∴ Chocolates given to girls be 2x.

Number of boys = 1080 – 520 = 560

Present girls = 520 – 70 = 450

560x + 520 × 2x = (x + 1) × 560 + 450 × 2x

⇒ 1600x = 560 + 1460x

⇒ 140x = 560

⇒ x = 4

Total chocolates = 560 × 4 + 520 × 8 = 6400

∴ The total number of chocolates is 6400.
