On children's day, chocolates are to be distributed in a school consisting of 1080 children, the number of chocolates given to each boy and girl is in the ratio 1 : 2, But on that particular day, 70 girls out of total 520 were absent so their chocolates were equally distributed among the boys of the school due to which each boy gets one extra chocolate, find the total number of chocolates. Correct Answer 6400
Given:
Total children = 1080
Girls = 520
Absent girls = 70
Ratio of chocolates given = 1 : 2
Calculation:
Let the number of chocolates given to boys be x,
∴ Chocolates given to girls be 2x.
Number of boys = 1080 – 520 = 560
Present girls = 520 – 70 = 450
A.T.Q
560x + 520 × 2x = (x + 1) × 560 + 450 × 2x
⇒ 1600x = 560 + 1460x
⇒ 140x = 560
⇒ x = 4
Total chocolates = 560 × 4 + 520 × 8 = 6400
∴ The total number of chocolates is 6400.
