The length of the plot is four times its breadth. A square plot of side 80m occupies 1/3rd of the total area of the plot. What is the length of the plot in metres? Correct Answer 277.13

Let the breadth of the plot be ‘x’ m

⇒ Length of the plot will be ‘4x’ m

⇒ Side of the square plot = 80 m

⇒ Area of the square plot = Side2

⇒ Area of the square plot = 802 = 6400 m2

⇒ Area of square plot occupies 1/3rd of the total plot

⇒ Total area of the plot = area of square plot × 3

⇒ Total area of the plot = 6400 × 3 = 19200 m2

According to given condition, the plot is rectangular in shape

⇒ Area of rectangular plot = length × breadth

⇒ 19200 = (4x) × (x)

⇒ x2 = 4800

⇒ x = 69.282m

∴ Length of the rectangular plot = 69.282 × 4 = 277.13m
