If Ram travel at 15 km/hr he would reach College at 10 am but if he travels at 20 km/hr he would reach college at 8 am. At what speed must he travel to reach college at 9 am? Correct Answer 17.14 km/hr
Assumption:
Let he travel a distance of y km
⇒ Time taken to reach college if he travels at 15 km/h speed = (y/15) hr
⇒ Time taken to reach college if he travels at 20 km/h speed = (y/20) hr
Calculation:
⇒ (y/15) – (y/20) = 2
⇒ y(20 – 15)/300 = 2
⇒ 5y = 600
⇒ y = 120
⇒ Time taken to reach college at 15 km/h speed = (120/15) hr = 8 hr
So, He takes 8 hours to reach college at 15 km/h speed. Now, as he reaches college at 10 am then he must have started his journey at 2 am. So, if he wishes to reach college at 9 am he has to travel 7 hours
∴ Speed at which he must travel to reach college at 9 am = 120/ 7
= 17.14 km/h
