Each question below is followed by two statements I and II. You have to determine whether the data given in the statement is sufficient for answering the question. You should use the data and your knowledge of Mathematics to choose the best possible answer. What is the value of x? I. x is a prime number less than 20 and x can divide 4913. II. If you take square of x and then you add 11 into it, the result will be 300.
Correct Answer If statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question, but statement II alone is not sufficient.
Statement I
Prime number less than 20
⇒ 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 and 17
And only 17 can divide 4913
∴ x = 17
Statement II
⇒ x2 + 11 = 300
⇒ x = √289
⇒ x = ± 17
So, statement II can't be used to evaluate the value of x, as it may either be positive or negative.
∴ Option 1 is the correct answer
