From the elective subject, he attempted 90% of the questions, out of which 75% were correct. What percentage of the total questions did he have correct? Correct Answer 55%

Total no. of aptitude questions = 20% of 80 = 16

⇒ No. of aptitude questions attempted = 16

⇒ No. of correct aptitude questions = 50% of 16 = 8

Similarly,

Total no. of Mathematics questions = 30% of 80 = 24

⇒ No. of Mathematics questions attempted = 50% of 24 = 12

⇒ No. of correct Mathematics questions = 75% of 12 = 9

Also,

Total no. of elective subject questions = 80 – 16 – 24 = 40

⇒ No. of elective subject questions attempted = 90% of 40 = 36

⇒ No. of correct elective subject questions = 75% of 36 = 27

⇒ Total no. of correct answers = 8 + 9 + 27 = 44

∴ Percentage of correct answers = 44/80 × 100 = 55%
